Let Them Eat Cupcakes!
Houston is sweet-eat trend proves good things still come in small packages
Agonizing over Italian cream or strawberry-filled vanilla? Fret no more and dole out individual cupcakes instead. Replacing the classic bride's or grooms cake with miniatures is a trend du jour that is here to stay, according tho H-town pastry chefs. Brides are covering the tables with rows of the bright treats, stacking them in towers or passing the desserts as favors. The, ahem, icing on the cake? The endless options like colors, monograms and frosting designs-give brides one more way to personalize their events. Now that the mini-mania has reached the receptions halls, here are the chic bakeries to answer the call.
SUGAR FIX Crave Cupcakes makes nostalgia feel new again. Their Uptown Park shop features vintage touches like old-fashioned milk fountains, retro mixers and an open-air kitchen where guests can catch the action. It is kind of like watching your grandmother bake, says co-owner Brad Dorsey. Brides-to-be are hooked on rich ingredients like European chocolate and Madagascar vanilla, and big-day flavors like vanilla, coconut or white chocolate. Strawberry or lemon frosting and fondant pieces in custom colors and monograms are also popular. (Crave also touts custom-designed wooden chocolate brown tiers for cupcake towers, and has supplied as many as 500 treats for a wedding.) Brides can also choose to decorate individually boxed cakes as favors. At just $3.25 a pop, some packages include free delivery and set-up. 1151-06 Uptown Park Blvd., 713.622.7283 or cravecupcakes.com.
